Recovery of Pensions for Footballers in Europe

Based in Paris. Service in Spanish.

Pension funds accumulated in Europe that can be claimed, sometimes years later

Many footballers who played in Europe are unaware that they accrued pension rights in the countries where they worked. These funds exist, are registered with social security systems or private insurance schemes, and can be claimed. The problem is that the process differs from country to country, the documents are often lost, and foreign institutions do not offer assistance in Spanish.

At WD & Associés, we manage the recovery of these funds from Paris. We identify the accrued rights, obtain the necessary documentation, and coordinate collection with each institution. We work directly with the player, with his representative, or with the firm advising him.

The process can be handled entirely remotely. No travel is required.

“Funds do not disappear when the player leaves. They remain in the system, waiting to be claimed.”

Countries where WD recovers footballers' pensions

WD Associés manages the recovery of pensions accumulated in the main European football countries. Each country has different deadlines, its own forms, and specific documentary requirements. An error in the process can result in the payment being rejected or in unforeseen tax obligations.

Western Europe

Germany · Belgium · France · Netherlands

Highly formalized pension systems. Accumulated funds are recoverable, but the procedures require specific documentation and knowledge of the local system.

United Kingdom and Italy

England · Italy

Systems with their own particular features and claim deadlines that must be known precisely. We coordinate with local specialists in each jurisdiction.

Switzerland

Switzerland

Occupational pension system (LPP) with specific rules for athletes. The documentation required varies depending on the type of fund and the time elapsed since the last contribution.

In all cases the process can be handled entirely remotely, without the player having to travel to the country. WD acts as legal representative before the foreign institutions.

From first contact to effective payment

01

Verification of entitlements

We confirm that the player does in fact have funds registered in the country or countries where he worked, requesting this information directly from the institutions.

02

Obtaining documentation

WD requests the employment contracts and documents from that period directly from the club, the national federation, the social security body, or the country's public records.

03

Preparation of forms

Each institution requires specific documents, in many cases including sworn statements. WD's team prepares and reviews each document before submission to avoid costly errors.

04

Managing payment

Once the application is approved, WD coordinates payment and follows through the process until the funds are available to the client.

05

Follow-up and closing

We verify that payment is completed correctly and advise on the tax implications in the player's country of residence.

Contracts are signed quickly. The entitlements remain in the system.

When a footballer signs a professional contract in Europe, the club is required to make contributions to the country’s social security systems. These contributions accumulate throughout the term of the contract. When the employment relationship ends and the player leaves the country, the funds do not disappear: they remain in the system, waiting to be claimed.

The problem is that no one usually informs the player of this entitlement. Contracts are signed quickly, agents are not always familiar with local pension systems, and once the player returns to his home country, tracking those contributions becomes a secondary concern.

Years later, that money remains in the system. But claiming it requires knowing the exact procedure for each country, handling documentation in other languages, and having points of contact with the relevant institutions.

The lack of documents is not an insurmountable obstacle. WD requests the necessary documentation directly from the former club, the country's social security body, or public records. This is part of the work we carry out.

An error in the process can result in the payment being rejected or in unforeseen tax obligations. The correct preparation of each form and declaration is critical.

At WD & Associés we manage the entire process: from verifying the accrued rights to effective payment, in Spanish, remotely.

Spanish-speakers in Paris, with direct access to European systems

Recovering pensions in Europe requires knowledge of each country’s system, the applicable claim deadlines, and the specific forms of each institution. Our firm is based in Paris, and we coordinate with local specialists in each jurisdiction.

We work directly with the player, with his representative, or with the firm advising him. The process is entirely remote: the player does not need to travel to the country.

We provide assistance in Spanish, French, and English. For Latin American footballers who played in Europe, having a point of contact in their own language who understands the local systems makes the difference between recovering those funds or leaving them forgotten.

What happens if the footballer no longer has the documents from when he played in that country?

+
This is the most common situation. WD Associés requests the necessary documentation directly from the former club, the country's social security body, the national federation, or public records. The lack of documents does not prevent the process from being initiated.

Can a claim be made even if many years have passed?

+
In most European systems, accrued rights do not lapse, although there may be minimum age requirements to access payment depending on the country. During the initial consultation, we analyze the specific situation of each player.

How long does the recovery process take?

+
Timeframes vary depending on the country and institution. Some cases are resolved within a few weeks, others within a few months. During the consultation, we provide an estimate based on the player's specific profile.

Does the player have to travel to the country to manage his pension?

+
No. In all cases the process can be handled entirely remotely by means of powers of attorney. WD acts as legal representative before the foreign institutions.
